Ruud to Real?

Posted on July 28, 2006 at 8:03 am in

In the Primera Liga, I more or less follow Atletico Madrid. I have serious issues with Real Madrid and their irritating Galacticos. Yet, I have resolved that no matter what happens, Ruud van Nistelrooy is Love and I will resolve my psychotic Manchester United fangirl side with my hormonal side. Of course the two are not exclusive of each other – I have enough testosterone to pound the bejesus out of Cristiano Ronaldo. Then again, you don’t need much to beat him up anyway. :D

My Darling is moving to Real Madrid.

Talk about conflict of interest. XD

This is me attempting the Zen approach to the Beautiful Game. :) Or else I’d be pulling the biggest temper tantrum since Sir Gaffer kicked Jaap Stam to Lazio.

High School Musical (review)

Posted on July 23, 2006 at 5:27 pm in

For reasons that are still beyond my comprehension, I rented out High School Musical. Okay, not really beyond comprehension – Zac Efron played young Simon Tam on Firefly, and then Haz mentioned watching the movie on the Disney Channel. Now generally I don’t trust her judgement (you know I love you, yes?) but fandom can be very persuasive. Especially when you subscribe to 1001 mail listings dedicated to said fandom.

The opening sequence, with the goddamn cheesy music had me cringing slightly. The big cringer has to be the b-ball dance sequence Get Your Head In The Game, totally channeling Nike’s Freestyle ad. FAIL. People, please, only another Nike ad can pwn a Nike ad. Get with the programme.

Very cheesy, very vanilla – from plot to characterisation to music. Try feeding this to a teenager and they will laugh at, um, everything. Hell, I’m laughing my guts out and I’m long out of high school.

6/10 – better than your average made-for-tv movie, and definitely 200% better than the crap straight-to-DVD sequels Disney have been churning out. I’d have given extra points if they at least tried to be obvious about the subplot that was so obviously happening – the two lead characters doing the naked pretzel. Come on, the dude climbs into the girl’s bedroom. There is a damned queen-sized bed. Don’t tell me nothing happened.

Naturally, expect more cheese and vanilla in the sequel, supposedly scheduled for release in the northern summer of 2007.

Is it just me or does the guy who plays Coach Bolton look like Nate Fillion? Seeing way too many Firefly connections…

Have oil, will do business

Posted on July 14, 2006 at 9:25 pm in

Never ever attempt to read Fortune’s annual 500 list(s) while drinking coffee.

When Fortune released its global 500 list for 2006, I ended up spewing coffee out my nose. Petronas’ global rank in 2005 was 133 – this year they have risen to 120. They rank 20th in both Asia’s top 50 and in the petroleum refining industry category. (Hey lookie, Petrobras are doing better than the national football team. *cough*)

During the time I did the corporate schwing with a certain multinational consultancy, I was led to believe that many of the companies in Australia did better than most Asian and European ones. Of course, Rio Tinto is actually a British company, and despite the booming resources industry, the highest ranking Australian company BHP Billiton has yet to pwn Petronas. If it were practical we’d all be using oil as a common form of currency.

The lesson in the Fortune global 500 list? Have oil, will roll in the moolah. I need to conquer a small island with a huge oil reserve.

Surprisingly, the list of global ‘newcomers’ for 2006 include Nike (dude, wtf?) and Apple Computers. You’d think Nike would have been on the list for the last few years at the very least.

American International Group slipped from 19th to 20th in the global 500. Sound familiar? Guess who Manchester United’s new sponsors are. :P

ISP stupidity

The ISP I subscribe to are the biggest wanktards in the history of mankind. Wankers, bastards, useless asswipes, you name it, they embody it.

My ISP e-mail (used to deal with annoying family members) is created under the main ISP account registered under Papa’s name. Now, as we all know, Papa does not have any phone manners. Neither do I. But since he can get away with it, I deal with the horrendous task of general administration for various things like bills, banking and finances, asset management and legal matters.

Yes, I moonlight as an Executive Assistant in my spare time. T__T

There are two ways to access my e-mail: set up the account on Outlook/Eudora/etc, or via the ISP provider’s website. That means when I’m on a public computer or at work, I have access to my e-mail from the ISP’s website.

Unfortunately, this entire fucking day, I’ve been trying to access my e-mail via the website, but it insists that my username/password combination is wrong. Three tries and the account is locked out for three hours. I tried this morning, this afternoon and just now. When I open Outlook on my laptop my e-mails are retrieved fine, and I doublechecked the password as well. Everything I key in is correct.

In previous dealings with this goddamn ISP, I have discovered they will not let me conduct any sort of administration to the account over the phone as I am not the subscriber named in the account. So what the fuck am I supposed to do? That’s right, dear old man has to call up the ISP (only during office hours!), fix my stupid e-mail, and as part of my skillz in demonstrating foresight, ask the ISP to note down that I, the daughter, am allowed to deal with the ISP over the phone and by mail on behalf of the subscriber.

Morons.

So ends the World Cup 06 madness

Dude.

Who’d have thought? Azzurri!! :D

And life goes back to normal. *twitch* What am I supposed to do now, without a whole bunch of games to look forward to every day? *twitch*

Extra time heroics

AZZURRI TO THE FINAL!! HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

They do this on purpose. Keep me on edge for 119 minutes, screaming for a miracle. When Iaquinta came on for Samurai Mauro Camoranesi, and then Del Piero, you knew Lippi was trying to avoid the cursed penalty shootout.

I love how the pox of Australia’s 2006 World Cup campaign scored the first goal. Heh heh heh. :) Del Piero’s goal just rubbed it in to the Germans.
