The time of our wha-?

The salah-ness of it all: Il Divo and Toni Braxton to perform Official FIFA World Cup 2006 song.

In the name of the beautiful game called football, I PROTEST!! At least Ricky Martin was er, somewhat manly compared to them. With these boys, I question the appropriateness of their image!! Then again, I question the appropriateness of allowing David James to even play football. Don’t even get me started on Toni Whatsherface.

The Official Song is in line with the overall theme of the upcoming football event, “A time to make friends”, and about the special feeling that the game brings to people. – Source

What planet are these FIFA officials on? It is not time to make friends, it is time for fierce rivalry and making up taunting cheers (I have a special one ready for Marcello Lippi if the Azzurri screw up). Special feelings, my arse. I don’t want special feelings, I want to have that once-every-four-years adrenaline rush!! Of course, I hope not to break any furniture this year – which means Lippi better do his damn job or I’m sending him the bill.

That’s it. Until the 2006 World Cup is over, Il Divo will be referred to as Gay Divo.

Saving grace – Brian Kennedy

Brian Kennedy is love. Because he is love, I sat my sorry ass through the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest semifinal to watch him perform Every Song Is A Cry For Love, a song written by him and voted by Eire to take to the contest. The things I do to listen to one of my favourite artists. I hope he embarks on another tour – I’d go again. His gigs are worth every penny.

For that, I had to endure the state of eurotrash, which is alive and well in Eurovision. Barring a few rock tunes (Finland was hilarious, Poland redefined drama rock of wtf proportions), everything else was painful and wrong and a category of crack in itself.

The saving grace was Brian Kennedy, with his beautiful, angelic voice, singing such an atypically melancholy Irish tune. He changed the vocal arrangement at the end for the live performance, hitting that amazing high note of his that sends spines tingling. Oh, to find a proper live recording of it on mp3.

Son of a Witch (review)

I’ve meant to put this up sooner, a sort-of review of Son of a Witch, sequel to Greg Maguire’s Wicked, of which the musical of the same name was based on. Although the same can’t be said of its storyline.

Haz has a very vocal love-hate relationship with the musical. While I do like the music, however, like Haz, I find the storyline irksome because my god, the musical totally misses the damn point of the book.

SPOILERS AHEAD. I have tried to leave as much out as possible, but you have been warned.

Champions League 2006 final

(Barcelona send Arsenal crying back to London 2-1)

Muahahaha. I love pissing off Gunners pre-Champions League 2006 final. I have nothing better to do, so sue me. Hee.

Gunner: Arsenal will win 2-0. Henry to score.
Jean: Hahahaha. Barca shall whup Arsenal ass 2-1. Eto’o gonna make you fuckers sweat.

Post-game as well. :D

Jean: HAHAHAHAHA.
Gunner: We should have won!!
Jean: World Cup. Ronaldinho gonna whup Henry’s ass*. Again!! HAHAHAHA!!

Fine game of football that was for an outside spectator. Winning a bit of money out of it is fine too. :D

*Okay technically this can only happen if they reach the quarterfinals onwards. I just like painting a painful picture. Hee.

Practical yet bank-breaking

Frank: Happy Birthday! A surprise is on its way.
Jean: You kidnapped Ruud van Nistelrooy?
Frank: Not Ruud, but hopefully as good. ;)

Burberry cardholder

Suffered a mini mental breakdown when I unwrapped the gift to find a Burberry box. I was horrified that Frank actually went hunting for something from Burberry, of all the credit card-maxing things to look for (kidnapping Ruud may have been cheaper). The funny thing is, I’ve actually been looking for a decent cardholder because my RM$1.50 plastic one is falling to pieces.

This is why Frank is on a pedestal and all you stupid males have to put up with my ranting and raving on the awesomeness that is Frank.

Hee!! Thank you, Frank!! I’d kiss you if you weren’t so damn ugly, I love my gift and I love you and don’t do it again WARGH how much did you spend!! (This warrants an expedition to find out exactly how much Frank wasted.)

It came wrapped with pretty red ribbons too!! Clearly the wrapping and ribbons were not done by Frank. :D

FA Cup Final 2006

(Liverpool win 3-1 on penalties over West Ham United)

Wow. Just. Wow. The look of pure heartbreak on Anton Ferdinand’s face was painful to watch. He probably thinks it’s his fault West Ham lost the FA Cup final to Liverpool. All for missing the penalty that sealed Liverpool’s win. C’mon, there is a reason why Reina was hailed as the best goalkeeper in Spain prior to his move to Liverpool.

Roy Carroll was the first out to comfort him, followed by Manchester United legend and fellow Hammer Teddy Sheringham. I’ve never seen a player look like that after losing a final – looking as if the loss were his fault and his alone. The raw guilt etched all over his features, the tears, the disappointment – the young do not hide their feelings as well as their older, hardened counterparts. Certainly it was a dream run for West Ham, down two seasons ago from the Premier League, then back up thanks to Alan Pardew, and making the FA Cup final in the process.

Perhaps Rio and Sir Les will have some wise words for Anton. West Ham fans didn’t blame him one bit from the reception he got. This kid will play for England someday, just like his brother and cousin.
