When in doubt, blame Uncle Willie

Guitar Hero first came to my attention via Wil Wheaton, who had been ranting and raving over it continuously, even in exile. The concept seemed fascinating – putting some actual skill to air guitar based on Dance Dance Revolution.

After two weeks of hem-ing and haw-ing, I finally went out and got it. Scarily enough, when I carried the huge box to pay, the guy (who sounded American) at the counter went, “That game is awesome!! Have you tried the demo at the games section? Do you want to go try?” Omg, HELL NO. Playing a game in public only happens when you actually pwn at it. I think he just wanted someone to accompany him so he had an excuse to play, LoL.

Jules naturally declared me completely out of my mind, laughing his guts out when I fucked up Franz Ferdinand’s Take Me Out. Of course I subsequently laughed my guts out when he totally failed at Deep Purple’s Smoke On The Water faster than my mangling of Take Me Out.

Some practice later, we were taking turns (more or less) rocking out and mocking each other. I had to play eight songs just to get to Queen’s Killer Queen. You can blame We Will Rock You for that. ;)

I can’t wait for Guitar Hero II – one of the songs featured is by The Kinks. THE KINKS. And it’s only like my most favourite song by The Kinks EVER. :D
